See Canada by train.The VIA rail train on its 4-day rail journey across Canada traversing the forests of Ontario, the rocky outcrops of the Canadian Shield, through to the flat lands and prairies. The VIA Rail train stops amongst other places at Winnipeg in the Prairies and Jasper in the Canadian Rockies.
You are allowed one free stopover along the route: more are available but have to be paid for. We recommend the VIA Rail Sleeper Touring Class, where accommodation is either in semi-private berths or cabins. Meals are included and you can use the Park and Skyline Car on the train with the wrap around windows to ensure the best view as you travel across Canada.

Winnipeg - Abounds with performing arts companies, theatres and festivals. Its charming neighbourhoods are easily explored on foot, with plenty of boutiques, museums, historical sites and art galleries along the way.
Saskatoon - Located on the shores of the South Saskatchewan River, Saskatoon is the largest city in the province of Saskatchewan. Home to no less than seven bridges, Saskatoon is also known as "the Paris of the Prairies".
Edmonton - The hosts over thirty festivals every year, including the Edmonton Folk Festival and the Fringe Festival. Shoppers will love the West Edmonton Mall, one of the world’s largest.
Jasper - Ski hills, hot springs and Jasper National Park. Jasper is a premier destination for nature lovers and outdoor sports enthusiasts.
Vancouver - Renowned for its beauty. Stroll along beaches in the summertime, or grab an afternoon of skiing at nearby resorts in the winter.
You could stop off at any of these places and then catch the next train a few days later.

VIA Rail
The crown owned VIA Rail services travel from Halifax in the East to Vancouver in the West and up to Hudson Bay in the North, using beautifully restored 1950’s trains. There are two levels of service on each of the longer journeys and we recommend the first class service for the ambience and comfort, although the economy seating is an affordable way to experience Canada.
