Niagara, Ontario Cycling holiday around Niagara
7 nights
A wonderful chance to explore the beauty of the Niagara region by bicyle. This holiday starts in Toronto, takes you by train to Niagara Falls where you will collect your bicycle and let your Niagara cycling holiday really begin. You will of course visit Niagara Falls, but you will also see the charming Niagara on the Lake, the Welland Canal and the Niagara vineyards.
Your Niagara cycling holiday is self-guided and you will have to carry your own belongings in the two panniers provided, but should you require assistance, it is at the end of a telephone line.
If you would like to extend your holiday with a few extra days in Toronto or anywhere else in Canada, Frontier Canada offer a full tailor-made service.
Add to wishlistYour first night will be in Toronto. Depending on your flight arrival time, you should have time to see the highlights of this vibrant city, but if you really want to get to know the place (including a cycle tour around the city and its islands) you could add a couple of extra days to the end of your holiday.
All cycling holidays start on a Saturday.
1 night in Toronto.
Toronto to Lake Erie
40kms
You will take the train from downtown Toronto to Niagara Falls. We can make arrangements for your main luggage to be stored while you are cycling in the Niagara region, so just take along what you need to carry for this adventure, which can then be transferred to two bicycle panniers awaiting your arrival in Niagara Falls.
Once packed and organised, you will head directly to Niagara Falls. Following the river south past the falls area, experience the tranquility of the river and a quiet trail to Fort Erie, a place full of history and dubbed 'Canada's Bloodiest Battlefield'. View Buffalo, New York’s skyline, from across the water, and head on to popular summer beach hamlets along the shores of Lake Erie.
1 night in Fort Erie.
Lake Erie to Thorold
60kms
Today you pedal the 24km Friendship Rail Trail to Port Colborne, a peaceful rural journey along the shores of Lake Erie. We would recommend a stop to explore the harbour area of Port Colborne before connecting with the Welland Canal Trail. Following this historic waterway highway, the Welland Canal, you will pass rugged grasslands and through scenic nature points. Arrive in Thorold to watch a huge variety of ships sail by and discover the fascinating working of the lock.
1 night in Thorold.
Thorold to Jordan
30-60km depending on route chosen.
Breaking away from the canal trail, enjoy cycling along meandering country back roads taking in scenic greenbelt vistas. Add challenge to the ride with climbs and descents in the Short Hills area and along Niagara’s escarpment, or simply follow the route to the nearest winery or fruit stand for a day of sampling some of Niagara’s bounty. You will be given maps of the different routes available to you.
1 night in Jordan / Vineland.
Jordan to Niagara On The Lake
40kms
Cycle to Lake Ontario to join the eastward Waterfront Trail, stop in Port Dalhousie at one of the many lake view cafes or restaurants, or to take a spin on the antique carousel. Continue east and back into the greenbelt, a fitting entry into the picturesque town of Niagara-on-the-Lake.
2 nights in Niagara-on-the-Lake.
Enjoy the quaint old town, exploring on bike or foot. Marvel at the old homes, gardens and shops. See a play at the Shaw Theatre or learn about local history and legendary battles. Visit more wineries and sample some culinary delights.
Niagara On The Lake to Toronto

End the tour enjoying a ride upstream along the banks of the Niagara River. Stop in the historical town of Queenston before cycling under the forest canopy and up the Niagara escarpment. Take in the view from the top before continuing onwards stopping at some of the many points of interest along the way. End your day at Niagara Falls train station where you will leave your bicycle and relax on the two hour ride back to Toronto’s Union station. Return to your Toronto hotel and retrieve your luggage.
