Kananaskis Country to Waterton Lakes National Park

368kms.  You will be following the Alberta backroads today through farm and ranching land.  Be sure to stop at Smashed-In-Buffalo-Jump interpretive centre, a UNESCO World Heritage site which bears witness to a custom practiced by native people of the North American plains for nearly 6000 years.

160kms.  Cross the Continental Divide as you drive the Crowsnest Pass.  Do stop at The Frank Slide Centre which highlights the rich history of the area and tells the tale of the huge avalanche here in 1903.  Fernie has a long history both as a mining town and home of the legendary Griz.  Today it is known for its scenery, skiing, fishing and mountain biking and you will spend the night in this lovely alpine village.

Panorama to Golden

136kms.  Back into the valley, you will start your journey north to Golden, perhaps stopping for a refresher at the Radium Hot Springs and the Northern Lights Wolf Centre before reaching the comforts of the log cabins at Cathedral Mountain Lodge where you will spend 2 nights.  This will give you time to explore Kicking Horse Resort and Yoho National Park.
