Canada provides perhaps the best chance you will ever have to see and get close to the magnificent Polar Bear.

Frontier Canada has a huge range of polar bear watching holidays with choices ranging from a long weekend in Churchill to an 8-night cruise.

You will see polar bears in Churchill from mid-October to mid-November and from the expedition cruising ship in July-August. In Churchill you will see the bears from the specially constructed Tundra Buggies and the cost of your holiday will be governed by the amount of people in each buggy. This can vary from 18 to 40. There are also holiday where you can sleep out on the tundra in a converted buggy. This is an amazing experience.

How and when should I see the polar bears?

The answer largely depends on how much time YOU want to spend with the bears. You can have a quick 2 night trip with a full day polar bear viewing or spend many more nights to really get a feel for these majestic creatures and get some great photographs. We have summarised the options below but there are many more variations and companies - so the best thing really is to contact us with how many days you would like and we will find the trip to suit!

The Casual Viewer

If you just want to see one of these magnificent animals and don’t have a lot of time, we would recommend just one or two nights in Churchill during late October or early November.

The Keen Photographer or Animal Lover

If you are passionate about the bears and the land in which they live, or if you are a keen photographer, we would suggest one of the longer holidays staying in Churchill and /or in the Tundra Buggy Lodge. Prices for these vary and depend entirely on how many people are on the trip. The buggies take a maximum of 40 people; less people on the buggy means better polar bear viewing and more expense. Some of the trips only have 19 people on the buggy meaning a window seat for all; these are led either by an interpretive guide or by a specialist photographer. Lodge Based Experience

There are also a number of lodges around Churchill where polar bears can be seen in July, August and September as well as in October and November. These are remarkable places where you do not use the tundra buggies at all but see them on foot which gives you an entirely different perspective. They are only accessible by air, so your trip includes an amazing flight over the tundra from Churchill. Far away from any electric light, you have a good chance of seeing the Aurora later in the year – an added bonus!
